Past Events: Celebratory Dinner - Sir Alan Cobham’s Far Horizons

6th October 2011

It is my great pleasure as the Commodore of PFBC to introduce Lady Nadine Cobham as our very special guest tonight… and to acknowledge the support that she provides to PFBC as our Patron.

As the daughter-in-law of Sir Alan Cobham, she is the vital link between the History of Aviation and the Cobham Family Archive. Sir Alan inspired a nation in the art, techniques & beauty of flying which were to prove to be highly significant factors for Britain in developing the C-Class Flying Boats and their routes with Empire.

It is an interesting but questionable correlation that over 100,000 people enjoyed the experience of flying within Sir Alan’s aircraft, whilst many a million stood as spectators gasping at the aerobatics and his achievements ~ such as the flight to Australia and back…

For as the 2nd World War threatened our existence & way of life, more than one million 100,000 brave folk were to serve in the RAF!

We will see this evening how this marvellous history unfolded…
